A new year, a new life.

I am not one to make Resolutions every New Year’s Day. I did at one point in my life, but after a few years, I realized that I was not really making resolutions. I was simply attempting to redo what I hoped to do the previous year. But as I was reading a book that a colleague of mine here in Nebraska wrote, I started to see some of his writing describing me. So then, I thought, “why not give it a real shot this time?”

So today, I started walking. This might not seem like a big deal to some, but for me, it is a major resolution. I have been at a desk or behind the wheel of my vehicle too much, and even though I am not very worried about how I appear to some people, I am bothered that I am starting to “feel the pain” when I walk uphill sometimes.

I also want to have all of my Coursework done. I have three classes left, and the one thing I have been good at is the procrastination with getting my preclass assignments done. Therefore, I want to have my work done days or even weeks before the deadline, instead of hours.

Another thing that I started to do is more cooking for myself. I have been eating out a lot, and even though the meals are somewhat healthy sometimes (yeah, just sometimes), I also enjoy cooking, and I figure that not only will it save me some money here and there, but I can also be creative with my meals. Even with making prepared meals, such as frozen pizzas or TV dinners, I can add a little bit of this or that to make the dish taste different each time.
This resolution might be a little tough because of the meetings I go to, and how in most cases, I cannot simply “pack a lunch”, but I can try to eat better when I have the opportunity.

I am also going to take time. By this, I mean things like leaving the office when it is time, taking my Sabbath and “mental relaxing” days each week, and taking my vacations. In 2011, I failed to take the time off that I wanted, only taking a vacation for a week just after Easter and a day or so before and after my Course of Study classes in Ohio in August. In 2012, it is all about making sure that I am taking care of me so that I can better care for other people.

Now, there is one thing that I have to ask of you, my readers…Resolutions only work when there is support and accountability. So please take a moment to see if I got my walking done for the day, or how my eating habits are doing, or how my Coursework is coming along. I would really appreciate that.

For now, I am going to clean up my dishes from the soup that I have been eating for a few days now… All finished up, and boy, was it good!
